GREENSBORO — On Thursday, February 6, 2014, Sandra Buie, 45 of 1918 Peale Terrace departed this life. She was born in Dillon, SC to Robert and Doris Bostic. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Sherman and Bessie Buie, maternal grandparents, John “Pap” McCallum and Bertha McCallum and one brother, James Albert McCallum.
“Fanny” as she was fondly known was a graduate of Rochville University, Class of 2010. In her earlier years, she worked for A Cleaner World as a presser for ten years. Fanny went on to pursue her CNA license to work as a professional caretaker. She enjoyed dancing, decorating, and cooking.
Survivors who cherish her memories are; two sons, Otis Martis Allen, Bracey Donnell Allen; their father, Otis Donnell Allen of High Point, NC; four sisters, Jacquline Buie, Tonya Quick, Nicole (Larry) Quick and LaTasha Bostic all of High Point, NC; two grandchildren, Emorianna and Noah Dixon of High Point, NC; two special nieces, Dorean and Jacques Buie; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 1405 Penny Rd. Interment will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the hall from 1:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. and other times at 211 Hampton St.

THOMASVILLE — Rev. James Jefferson Grant, 84, a resident of 198 Ashbury Drive went to be with his Lord on Friday, February 7, 2014 at his residence. He was born in Macon County, NC, May 28, 1929 a son of James Wiley Grant and Mary Ellen Wilson Grant. His mother died when he was six months old and he was raised by a step-mother, Lou Ella Wilson Grant. He had been a resident of this area most of his life. He was a US Army veteran and a member of Fairfield Baptist Church in Archdale. He was the founder of Sunny Side Baptist Church in High Point and had served as minister of several other area churches concluding with his retirement from Fairfield Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Sue Canipe Grant. Surviving are five daughters, Joyce Mason and her husband Ron of Trinity, Kathy Lewis and her husband Barry of Lexington, Edna Holt of Randleman, Pamela West of Trinity, and Mary Martha Mitchem of Asheboro; four sons, Ronnie Grant of Thomasville, Rev. Roger Grant and his wife Annette of Trinity, and Michael Grant and Steve Grant, both of Thomasville; four sisters, Ella Mae Kersey and her husband Cliff of Sophia, Rose Brown and her husband Eddie of Franklinville, Beulah Riddle of Gastonia, and Marie Whitfield and her husband Raymond of Nebo; two brothers, Sanford Grant and wife Ruby and Jerry Grant, both of Gastonia. Also surviving are nineteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 AM at Sunnyside Baptist Church in High Point by the Rev. Rick Shoemaker and the Rev. Roger Grant. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Thomasville. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until placed in the church Monday at 5 PM. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 6 until 8 PM and other times at the residence. THOMASVILLE — Mr. Floyd (Dusty) Melvin Langston, 86, a resident of High Point for over 60 years, passed on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Hospice Home of High Point. He was born January 20, 1928 in Wilson County, a son to the late John Wesley Langston and Martha Jordan Langston. Dusty was the warmest person that you could meet and had a great sense of humor as well as a passion for motor cycles. He served in the United States Navy as a Seabee until December 1948 and went on to become Vice President of Ingram Vending before retiring after 35 years of service. He was an active member and deacon of the Seventh-day Adventist church in Thomasville and High Point for many years. He was married to Ernestine Langston for 53 years and raised three beautiful children with her until her death on October 18, 2004. He eventually met and married Dorothy Wheeler Langston who survives of Wilson, NC.
Also surviving are daughters, Sheila Collins and husband Mike of High Point and Connie Taylor of Lexington; a son, Mitch Langston of Scottsdale AZ; granddaughter, Julianna Nuttall and husband Matthew; grandsons, Kevin and Chris Collins and Jeremy and Michael Taylor. Dusty also leaves behind 5 great-grandchildren; Sylas, Blake, Zaine, Jaiden, and Jordan as well as special nieces; Tracey and Kristen.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 2 P.M. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel with Pastor Steve Bietz officiating. Entombment will follow at the Floral Garden Mausoleum in High Point. The family will receive friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:30.

DENTON — Mrs. Margie Viola Myers Loflin, age 90 of Butler, Alabama and formerly of Denton, NC died Thursday, February 6 in Butler where she had lived for several years.
A funeral service was held Sunday in Butler and a second service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 11 at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Denton conducted by Rev. Kelly Creekmur and Mr. Wayne Miller. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church.
The family will see friends from 1:00 until 2:00 Tuesday at Briggs Funeral Home.
Mrs. Loflin was born February 24, 1923. She was the daughter of Charlie Van and Willer Cook Myers of Denton, NC. She was married to Paul Alexander Loflin for almost 47 years, before his death in 1999.
She was a registered nurse, specializing in pediatrics. Mrs. Loflin received her training at High Point Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C.
In later years, she worked in the cabinet shop with Paul. She liked to read her Bible, knit, crochet and research genealogies. Mrs. Loflin will be long remembered for saying “Let me finish this row” when Paul was ready for her to do something besides knit.
She is survived by a sister Elsie Rogers (Bill) of Denton, N.C.; a daughter Christine Nickell (John) of Butler, AL; and three grandchildren: John Charles Nickell (Angie) of Parkville, MO; James Robert Nickell of Troy, AL; and Kathryn Maie Nickell of Butler, AL.

THOMASVILLE — Mr. Herman Lee Overcash, 85, a resident of S. Old Fisher Ferry Rd, died Saturday, February 8, 2014 at Piedmont Crossing Retirement Community. He was born on August 3, 1928 in Davidson County, NC to Willie Lee Overcash and Kate Marie Collins Overcash. He was a graduate of Fair Grove High School and was a retired supervisor with the US Post Office, Thomasville Branch. He was a US Coast Guard veteran and a member of Fair Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris E. Overcash on October 18, 2005, whom he married on September 10, 1948; sisters, Mollie Embry and surviving husband, Bud of Thomasville and Frances (Teenie) Johnson and deceased husband, Bob.
Surviving are a daughter, Kandy Gerichten and husband Glenn of Jacksonville, NC; son, Keith Overcash and wife Diane of Thomasville; sisters, Hazel Prevo and Pete Davis and Bill Stone and husband Jimmy, all of Thomasville; three grandchildren, Brad Overcash and wife Jennifer and Lauren Woytisek and husband Mark, all of Charlotte; and Emilee Gerichten of Jacksonville, NC; great-grandchildren, Anna Katherine Overcash and Emma Lauren Woytisek; brother-in-law, David Workman and wife Mary of Thomasville; and longtime family friend, Debbie Dennis of Thomasville.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Fair Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. Allan Van Meter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Overcash will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the hour of the service. The family will be at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8 pm.
