Nell  Adams

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Nell Adams Adams, 82, of Watford Road, Thomasville, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014, at Hinkle Hospice Home. 

She was born on August 27, 1931, in Davidson County, the daughter of Theodore Benjamin Adams and Verna Crotts Adams.  She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.  She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Virginia Adams Lambert; and three brothers, Ted Adams, Keith Adams, and Bill Adams. 

On April 9, 1950, she married Rev. Hoyt Osborn Adams, who preceded her in death on August 3, 2011. 

Surviving are a  daughter, April Lynne Hepler and husband Mike of Thomasville; two sons, David Hoyt Adams and wife Mary Ellen of Salisbury, and Jonathan Adams and wife Carole of Thomasville; one brother, Daniel Kaye Adams and wife Laura of Colorado; six grandchildren, Andy Hepler, Jason Hepler, William Charles Armstrong, Brandi Adams, Chancey Adams, and Keri Moody; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Brooke Hepler, Jenna Hepler, Austin Hepler, Madison Hepler, Hannah Hepler, Keyaira Owens, Eric Moody, Kendra Moody, Kalli Griffith, Addie Griffith, Alicia Armstrong, Sabrina Armstrong, and Dalton Armstrong. 

A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Cedar Springs Cemetery, Cedar Springs Road, Lexington, NC, with Rev. Mike Orman officiating.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at J. C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville and other times at the home of the daughter, Lynne Hepler, 688 Paul’s Airport Road, Thomasville, NC.

Gladys Brown (w/pic)

THOMASVILLE — Gladys Mae Hulin Brown 86, a resident of Thomasville, passed away on Thursday May 29, 2014 at her home.

She was born on January 26, 1928, a daughter of the late Henry Hulin and Adie Gordon Hulin. Gladys was of Baptist faith and a member of Charity Baptist Church. She loved collecting dolls and planting flowers and she was so loving and kind to everyone in her path. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Daniel Charles Brown, as well as two daughters, Carroll Gray and Edith Ann Brown.

Surviving are her daughter, Janice Cranford of Thomasville; a son, Jerry D. Brown and wife Linda of Holden Beach, NC; and a sister, Donna Mabe and husband Steve of Thomasville. Also surviving are grandchildren, Tabitha Mickey, Kendra Koontz, Barry Cranford, Daniel Cranford, Tara Cranford, Jeffrey Brown, Timothy Brown, Jeremy Brown, and Kimberly Brown. Gladys was also blessed with 16 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in J.C. Green & Sons Chapel with Rev. Elton Welborn officiating. Entombment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. The family will also receive friends at the family home located at 387 Bonnie Regan Road in Thomasville on Saturday from 6 to 8 PM.

Thurman Grayson Haynes (w/pic)

JAMESTOWN – Mr. Thurman Grayson Haynes, age 97, of Jamestown, died Thursday, May 29th, at the residence of his son, following a brief illness.

A native of Davidson County, Mr. Haynes was born January 12th, 1917, a son of the late Herman and May Kennedy Haynes. He had been a resident of this area all his life and was a member of Spring Hill United Methodist Church, where he held many positions in the church, including membership in the Fellowship Sunday School Class.

On November 6th, 1937, he married the former Doris Moore who died May 1st, 2008. He was employed by Watts Bakery (now Flowers Bakery) in Jamestown for ten years and retired in 1981 from Jamestown Mills, where he worked for thirty one years. A school, Meredith Leigh Haynes - Bennie Lee Inman Education Center, was built on his property in 2009 and was named (in part) for his granddaughter, Meredith. Mr. Haynes volunteered daily at the school until his health failed in 2014. During his four years at Haynes-Inman Mr. Haynes was voted Volunteer of the Year for Guilford County Schools, State Senior Volunteer and National Senior Volunteer for 2014, sponsored by Home Instead.

Mr. Haynes, called “Grandpa” by the children at Haynes-Inman, loved the staff and children and his association with Haynes-Inman. His devotion to special needs students was a labor of love and defined his life.

In addition to his wife and parents, Thurman was also preceded in death by his granddaughter, Meredith Leigh Haynes; three sisters, Alice Swaim, Ruth Byerly and Grace Rankin; five brothers, infants Ocran and Ralph and Colon, Clark and George Haynes.

Mr. Haynes is survived by two sons, Norris Haynes and his wife Susan of Greensboro and Gary Haynes and his wife Sharon of High Point

Funeral services, to celebrate Thurman’s life, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Spring Hill United Methodist Church with the Reverend Donna Friddle and the Reverend Dr. Donald W. Haynes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service.

Students, faculty and staff of Haynes-Inman Education Center are invited to sit as a group at the funeral service on Sunday and are asked to be at the church by 2:30 pm.

The family would like to expresses their love to everyone at Haynes-Inman and special thanks to Vickie Simmons for their care and concern for Mr. Haynes.

Lowell Hedrick Sr.

LEXINGTON — Lowell Thomas Hedrick Sr., 80, died Friday, May 30, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Health – Lexington Medical Center.

The funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Hedrick’s Grove Reformed United Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home  and other times at the home.

 

Mable Hicks

THOMASVILLE — Mable LeEtta Hamilton Hicks, 82, died Thursday, May 29, 2014. 

The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, June 1, at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the home.

KERNERSVILLE — Theresa Delight McDowell, 64, died Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

A memorial revise will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 7, at Garrell Street Baptist Church in Archdale.

THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Judy Mae Baker Smith, age 64, a resident of Ashbury Dr. passed away, Thursday, May 29, 2014, in Thomasville Medical Center.

She was born Aug 10, 1949 in McDowell Co. N C, daughter of the late Harry Allen Baker and Louise Foster Baker. She was a retired beauty operator working with Rovillas Beauty Shop for many years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Robert Wayne Smith and Lonnie Everette Smith; one brother, Junior Baker; three sisters, Ruth Baker, Rachel Radford and Deborah Winters. She was married April 23, 1965 to Floyd Everette Smith who survives of the Home. Also surviving are a  daughter, Cindy Johnson and husband Jeffrey of Fries, VA; two brothers, Jerry Baker of Salisbury, NC and Larry Baker and wife Valerie of Idaho; seven grandchildren, Brandy Fernandes, Christopher Jeffery, Karen Smith, April Smith, Robert Smith, Jeffrey Smith and Emily Baker; and three great grandchildren.
