Ruby Lawson Bray
HIGH POINT — Ruby Lawson Bray died peacefully at Pennybyrn on Saturday, August 23, 2014. Born on July 14, 1930, daughter of the late Raymond Odell Lawson and Lula Mae Latham Lawson, she was a resident of High Point, NC all of her life. She graduated from High Point High School in 1948 and married Bruce Bray, Jr. on April 9, 1949. He preceded her in death in May of 1998.
Together she and Bruce owned and operated Bray Electric Company and High Point Electric Co. After retirement, Ruby enjoyed working at Elder Drug Company for many years.
During her life, Ruby enjoyed vegetable gardening, needlecrafts, knitting, and her beloved pets. She was an incredible cook and many friends enjoyed her hospitality over the years. She was a member of Northwood United Methodist Church and attended until her health prevented her from doing so.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Bruce (Chip) Bray, III, Rayma Bray Caulfield, her husband Brian Caulfield, Bryan Keith Bray and his wife Celeste Moody Bray. She was blessed with four grandchildren who loved her dearly, Briana Caulfield Ernsting and her husband James Patrick Ernsting, Kenneth Riley Caulfield and his wife Lauren Freeman Caulfield, Brooks Elizabeth Bray and Reagan Lawson Bray. Ruby had one great-grandchild, James Gunnar Ernsting. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Barbry and her husband, James (Jeff) Barbry, and nephews, James (Jimmy) Barbry, Mark Barbry, Thomas (Tommy) Bray and David Bray and their children.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11:00 am in Northwood United Methodist Church by the Reverend Jeffrey H. Sypole. Interment will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Sechrest Funeral Service on E. Lexington Avenue on Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:30 p.m.

TRINITY — Keith Comer, age 58, a resident of Trinity, passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014.
He was born June 12, 1956 to the late Lacy Comer and Sue Martin Comer and had been a resident of this area all of his life. He was a Life and Health Insurance agent for 30 years, representing several agencies in the area. He was a member of Hope Church in High Point, where he was a member of the Welcoming Committee and the Praise Band. He delivered meals for the “Masters Table” through Unity United Methodist Church in Thomasville. Keith loved playing the guitar and helping and caring for people. Most of all, he loved his Lord, and his family. He was a loving husband, father, brother, son In-law and friend and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was a brother, Dean Comer.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Darien Peace Comer; his daughters, Courtney Comer Hilchey and her husband Kyle, and Mackenzie Mae Comer. Also surviving are his sister, Kathy Comer; his brothers, Mike Comer and his wife Lisa and Danny Comer and his wife Nell and his faithful canine companions.
A committal service will be held Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock at Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church Cemetery with a service to celebrate Keith’s life Monday evening at 7 at Hope Church in High Point, with Pastor Randall Reece officiating. The family will see friends following the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Keith’s memory can be sent to First Citizens Bank of Archdale, where a trust fund will be set up to assist the Comer family with future financial needs. This information will be printed later on the Cumby Family Funeral Service website.

ARCHDALE — Edna Louise (Layell) Gallimore, 80, of Archdale passed away Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Hospice Home at High Point. She is the loving wife of Charles Hurley Gallimore to whom she was married for 58 years.
A daughter of the late Jipsie Robert and Ada (Haga) Layell, Louise was born on June 22, 1934 in Fries, VA. She was a graduate of High Point High School, class of 1953. She was a resident of Archdale for 45 years. In her spare time, she enjoyed collecting antiques.
In addition to her husband, Louise is survived by a daughter, Debra Willard of High Point; a son, Michael Gallimore of the home; two sisters, Faye (Layell) Kickler and her husband, Sonny of Sophia, and Lois (Layell) Kano and her husband, Ike, of High Point; a brother, Odie Funk of King; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her step mother, Lona Hill (Layell) Parrish.
Louise was dearly loved by her family and was a sweet and kind person who loved her husband and children. She also loved all her nieces and nephews and was a wonderful sister. It is a joy to know Louise has gone home to meet Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior.
A celebration of life service will be 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 206 Trindale Road, Archdale, with Pastor Bruce Dickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

LEXINGTON — Mrs. Lessie Mae Harris, 72, a resident of Gallimore Road, died Saturday, August 23, 2014 at home with her daughter, Susan. She was born on November 16, 1941 in Princeton, West Virginia to Andrew Wesley Martin and Vadie Pauline Shrewsbury Martin. She retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries, where she worked at Plant D. She was a member of Community Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Harris in 2008; and a brother, James Bernard Martin.
Surviving are her daughters, Debbie Ewing and husband Brian of Trinity, Shellia Hayworth and husband Bruce of High Point, and Susan Farnsworth of Asheboro; sons, Robert Turner of Columbus, GA and John Turner and wife Linda of Randleman; sisters, Virginia Nichols and husband Dean of Princeton, WVA, Blanche White and husband William of Oakdale, WVA, Goldie Baker and husband Nathan of High Point, and Mary Pettrey of Princeton, WVA; brothers, Thomas Martin and wife Alice of Princeton, WVA, and William Martin and wife Janice of Bluefield, WVA; grandchildren, Tony Hayworth, Ian Hayworth, Haley Newsome, Michael Jenkins, Amanda Turner, Danielle Turner, and Kristen Turner; numerous great-grandchildren; and special friends, Mary Worley of Lexington and Margaret Stills and husband Gene of Randleman.

HIGH POINT – Mary Louise Merdian, 89, of High Point, N.C., formerly of Peoria, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014, at Pennybyrn at Maryfield.
Mary was born on December 9, 1924, in Peoria to Leo Kearney and Erma (Roth) Houlihan. She married John Gordon Merdian on October 1, 1949. He preceded her in death on June 28, 2012.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Reverend Father Robert Houlihan SJ and Bill Houlihan.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Bob) DuCharme of Lexington, N.C., and Donna (Mike) Wood of High Point, N.C.; one son, Dave (Betty) Merdian of Troy, Mich.; six grandchildren, Kristin Hansen, Erica Roberts, Kyle Williams, Caitlin Merdian, Amanda Lord, and Megan Merdian; six great-grandchildren, Emily, Ellie, Matthew, Madeline, Kolbie, and Hunter; one sister, Sister Roberta (Phyllis) Houlihan CSJ of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Lois Merdian; and several nieces and nephews.
Mary worked in personal and purchasing at J.D. Roszell Co. in Peoria for eight years. She retired in 1986 from Caterpillar in Mossville, where she worked for 27 years with her last 11 years as executive secretary to a vice-president.
She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, its Ladies Guild, and Catholic Women’s League. At the time of her death, she was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, High Point, N.C.
A memorial mass will be celebrated 3:00 pm Wednesday August 27, 2014 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

HIGH POINT — Mrs. Lila Faye (Fowler) Rhodes, 78, joined her Lord & Savior on Friday, August 22, 2014 at High Point Regional Hospital, NC. She was the loving wife of the late David L. Rhodes.
Mrs. Rhodes was born on February 18, 1936 in Loris, SC a daughter of the late Porter Fair and Jennie Bell (Soles) Fowler. She was a resident of High Point, NC from 1955 until 2012. When her health began to decline she resided with her daughter in Archdale, NC. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. In her spare time she enjoyed playing BINGO, listening to gospel music and preaching, doing word searches, but most importantly, spending time with her family.
Mrs. Rhodes is survived by a son, Eddie L. Rhodes and his wife, Benita of Loris, SC; two daughters, Debbie R. Bowman and her husband, Joe of Archdale, NC and Shelia R. Gray of Thomasville, NC; three grandchildren, Brittany Puckett of Thomasville, NC, Travis Bowman of Archdale, NC and Nathaniel Rhodes of Trinity, NC; one great grandchild, Landon Pearson of Thomasville, NC; four sisters, Geneva Lawson of Emerson, NC, Lola Sykes of Greensboro, NC, Mearl Fowler of Loris, SC and Pat Carlisle and her husband, Gary of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, Bill Fowler of Loris, SC, Nick Fowler of Tabor City, NC and Eugene Fowler and his wife, Terry of Loris, SC; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Mack, Tim, Dan and Joe Dale Fowler.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at Cumby Family Funeral Service, 206 Trindale Road, Archdale, NC. LEXINGTON — Mr. Alton Cleveland Soles age 77, of Floyd Church Rd., Lexington died Friday, August 22, 2014 at WFU Lexington Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, August 27 at Floyd Baptist Church.

DENTON — Ms. Juanita Daniel Weaver age 87, of Farmbrook Dr., Denton died Friday, August 22, 2014 at Mountain Vista Health Park.
A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Monday, August 25 at Summerville Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Flynn Richardson, Rev. Jonathan Barbee, and Rev. Johnny Daniel. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Ms. Weaver was born June 28, 1927 in Davidson County to Travis Hurley Daniel, Sr. and Sallie Gallimore Daniel. She was a member of Summerville Baptist Church and worked for many years as a looper in the hosiery industry. Juanita was preceded in death by her husband, Arvel Columbus Weaver and by 4 brothers and 1 sister.
Juanita was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. Her favorite saying was “It didn’t cost anything to be kind to people”. She was such a positive influence in the lives of so many.
Surviving are, daughter, Lynn Garner and husband Zane of Denton; granddaughters, Hannah G. Cantu and husband David and Hailey Garner all of Denton; sister, Magilene Lanier of Locust.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Briggs Funeral Home in Denton and other times at the residence on Farmbrook Dr.
