Peggy Simmons

TRINITY — Peggy L. Simmons, 81, of Trinity, NC passed away on Wednesday, August 20th, at High Point Regional.

Peggy was married to J.C. Simmons of Trinity, NC for 65 years.

After employment in High Point's textile and furniture industries, Peggy spent the majority of her career working in the cafeteria at Trinity High School.  It was there that she forged life-long connections with generations of young people passing through its doors.  Throughout her decades in the lunchroom, Peggy was always known to provide an understanding ear to those who were troubled, and an encouraging word to those who were struggling. She shared in the joy of student successes, and softened their defeats with her positive attitude and her warm, broad smile. She was known to many as the "momma" of Trinity High School.

She was a long-time member of Hopewell United Methodist Church in Trinity, NC, where she was always active in the United Methodist Women, providing baked goods for the church sales and events. A voracious reader, Peggy was always to be found with a stack of recent fiction on her night table.  This admirable trait she has passed on to her children.  The positive example that Peggy provided in the lives of her family will be forever missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her six brothers, and two sisters.  She is survived by her husband, J.C. Simmons, of the home, and her four children, Carolyn Knapp of Raleigh, NC, Cathy (Keith) Freeman of Trinity, J. Michael (Debi) Simmons of Trinity, and Greg (Nancy) Simmons of Boone.  She also is  survived by her seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

The family will receive friends on Friday, August 22nd, from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale. The funeral service celebrating her life will be held at Hopewell United Methodist Church on Saturday, August 23rd at 2 p.m. with interment following in the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hopewell United Methodist Church Building Fund, 4512 Hopewell Church Road, Trinity, NC 27370.  Online condolences may be made through www.cumbyfuneral.com.
