THOMASVILLE — Diane Vaughn, 49, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington, N.C.

HIGH POINT — On Wednesday night during the snow, God called one of his angels home.
Dot Barnard passed away peacefully on Feb. 12, 2014. She was born in Cramerton, N.C. to Isaac Campbell and Mary Adulcie Glover and was the youngest of five children. Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce Donald Barnard, her brothers, Marvin and Grover Glover, sister Blanche Garrison and grandson Jason Trace Camp.
Dot is survived by her son; Bruce Donald Barnard Jr. and wife Jackie; daughter Lynne Barnard Camp and husband Larry Camp; daughter Babs Barnard Stott and husband Bryan Stott. She is survived by her four grandchildren; Chad Hunter Camp and wife Susan, Travis Ryan Camp and wife Amy; Mary Bryan Stott Tweedy and husband Matt; Kathryn Ann Stott Midkiff and husband Dave. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren; Madeline Grace Tweedy, Kaleb Ryan Camp, Benjamin Matthew Tweedy, Emma Caroline Camp, Lukas Bryan Tweedy, Kate Madison Camp, Elizabeth Hunter Camp and Mary Alana Midkiff. Her ninth great grandson will be born in March. Dot loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and had great joy in spending time with all of them. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and was loved by many. She is also survived by her sister Nell Sherrill and brother-in-law Dr. George Barnard and wife Pat and many nieces and nephews.
Dot was loved by all she came in contact with. Her special giving and loving spirit impacted untold numbers and will be missed by all.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service on Eastchester Dr. by the Rev. Dr. Jeff Patterson. Elva Myrick Lawing
ARCHDALE — Elva Myrick Lawing 91 formally of Westbrook Court in Archdale, went to be with the Lord on Thursday Feb. 13, 2014 at Hospice Home at High Point.
She was born in High Point on Aug. 24, 1922 to the late Nellie Duggins Myrick and Robert L. Myrick.
Married Clyde W. Lawing on Dec. 7, 1940 who predeceased her in 2007 after 66 years of marriage.
For most of her life she was dedicated homemaker but in her early years of her marriage she worked at Adams Mills. She was of the Baptist faith and in her later years looked forward to hearing Charles Stanley.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn (Carol) Stevens and husband Jim of Archdale and Janice Parsons and husband Gerry of Rutherfordton, N.C.; sister, Nona Sink of High Point, brother, Johnny Myrick and wife Martha of High Point; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Beck and wife Linda of Canton, N.C., Sherri Gerringer and husband, Bryan of High Point, Tami Stevens of Holly Springs, Gerry Parsons ll and wife Robin of Rutherfordton; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Beck, Casey Gerringer and Trevor Hughes.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday Feb. 19, 2014 at Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point, a celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Jim Vernon officiating followed by interment in Floral Garden Memorial Park.

GREENSBORO — Mrs. Vecie Hayes Kirkman, 86, a resident of Greensboro died Friday. Arrangements are incomplete at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel.
Margaret Ring Pruitt Willis
TRINITY — Mrs. Margaret Ring Pruitt Willis, 73, a resident of Trinity, died Saturday morning, Feb. 16, 2014 in the High Point Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 25, 1941 in Buncombe County, a daughter of Charley Roy Pruitt and Nannie Loudy Pruitt. She was a former employee with Adam Millis Hosiery in High Point.
Mrs. Willis was married to James Paul Willis, who preceded her in death March 5, 1984,
She was a member of Free Pilgrim Church in Thomasville.
Surviving are daughters, Carolyn Sweet and Doris Willis, both of high Point; sons, David James Willis and wife Nancy of New Orleans, La., Donnie Willis of South Dakota, Paul Willis and wife Marianna of Trinity and Donald Wayne Willis and wife Kim of Greensboro; a brother, Tommy Pruitt and wife Dorothy of Sophia; 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. in Free Pilgrim Church with Rev. Steve Manley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Willis will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6-8 p.m.

Franklin Duane “Doodle” “Humphrey” Smith
ARCHDALE — Franklin Duane “Doodle” “Humphrey” Smith, 81, of Archdale, passed away Feb. 14, 2014 at Hospice of High Point.
Humphrey was born on Nov. 11, 1932 to L. Guy Smith and Alberta Franklin Smith. He was a High Point firefighter for 18 years and a self-employed paint contractor. He enjoyed football, racing, fishing and wood working. In addition to his parents, Humphrey was preceded in death by sons, Ronnie and Wayne Smith.
Humphrey is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jane White Smith, of the home; brother, Irvin “Pat” L. Avant and wife Norma of Trinity; son, Craig Smith of Jamestown; daughters, Dawn Smith and Jerry Odell of High Point and Carol Ussery and husband Mike of Trinity; daughters –in-law, Charlee Smith and Lori Smith Marzouk; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Humphrey’s life will be held Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Floral Garden Memorial Park.

Linda Hedrick Kearns
DENTON — Mrs. Linda Hedrick Kearns, 70, a resident of Hulin McDowell Road, died Saturday morning, Feb. 15, 2014 in the Randolph Hospital. She was born April 12, 1943 in Davidson County, a daughter of the late Clifford Hedrick and Addie Andrew Hedrick. She was a retired employee with Klausser Furniture in Asheboro. Mrs. Kearns had been a member of Walters Grove Baptist Church for over forty years.
On June 29, 2002 she was married to Donald Larry Kearns, who survives of the home. Also surviving are a daughter, Rebecca Swaney Eddinger and husband Timmy of Lexington; three sons, Dowe Swaney and Timothy Swaney and wife Gail, both of Denton, and Carl Swaney and wife Shanda of Lexington; sisters, Irene Small of Denton and Lucille Cole of Lexington; a brother, Charlie Hedrick and wife Patty of Lexington; grandchildren, Brooke Eddinger, Ashley Eddinger Townsend and husband Luke, Amber Eddinger, Alex Eddinger, Jessica Swaney-Scott and husband Jason and James Swaney and wife Kristin; and four great-grandchildren
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. in Walters Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Simpson and Rev. Jonathan Ashe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Kearns will remain at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church thirty minutes prior to the service. They family will receive friends at the J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville, Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and other times at the home of her daughter, Rebecca Eddinger, 1371 Hill Road, Lexington.

Doris Loretta Hunt Hughes
THOMASVILLE — Mrs. Doris Loretta Hunt Hughes, age 78, a resident of Noahtown Rd. passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at Wesley Long Hospital in Greensboro. She was born Sept. 20, 1935 in Davidson Co. N.C. and was the daughter of the late John Thomas Hunt and Bessie Byerly Hunt. Mrs. Hughes was employed with Wrenn Mfg. for 40 years, and retired from Carolina Underware. She attended Love of God Baptist Church in Thomasville and was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Peggy Hughes and a brother, Clyde Hunt.
She was married July 15, 1951 to Clyde Junior Hughes who survives of the home. Also surviving are, one son, Ricky Hughes and wife Lisa of Reidsville, N.C.; one brother, Howard Hunt of Thomasville.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 at 11 a.m. in The Love of God Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Orman and Rev. Morris Brown officiating. The interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the J. C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville. Michael “Mike” Benn Stevenson
HIGH POINT — Mr. Michael “Mike” Benn Stevenson, age 57, a resident of Tower Ave. passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 in Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1956 in Guilford County, N.C. son of Henry Benn Stevenson and Frances Sara Lee Thompson Stevenson. He was employed with Quality Packing of High Point and was of the Baptist Faith.
He was preceded in death by his father Henry Benn Stevenson; two brothers, Tink Stevenson and Bud Stevenson.
Surviving are, his mother, Frances Sara Lee Thompson Stevenson; his companion, Annette Hill of the home; one son, Benn Stevenson of Denton, N.C.; two brothers, Henry Stevenson and wife Ann of High Point, N.C. and Rick Stevenson of Mobile, Ala.; two grandchildren; five step-children; nine step-grandchildren and his best friend Robert “Bunkey” Walls of High Point, N.C.
Memorial services will be conducted Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014 at 2 p.m. in J. C. Green & Sons Chapel in Thomasville with Rev. Austin Swinson officiating. The family will greet friends from 1-2 p.m. the hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Humane Society, 2700 Toomey Ave. Charlotte, NC 28203.
