CONCORD — Shirley Virginia Burger, 78, passed away Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Burger family.

GREELEY, CO — Elizabeth Wagner “Honey” Byerly, 81  passed away on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014 at her home. A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held 11  a.m. Saturday, Aug. 9,  at Adamson Chapel, 2000 47th Ave. in Greeley, CO.

 

Odell Everhart

LEXINGTON  — Carl Odell Everhart, 87,  died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at Hinkle Hospice House.

The funeral will be held at noon Saturday, Aug. 9, at Good Hope United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 11 a.m. to noon prior to the service. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.

 

Bruce Hedgecock

HIGH POINT - Bruce Hamilton Hedgecock, 72, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014.  The family will have a memorial service at a later date. Cremation services entrusted to Triad Cremation Society & Chapel.

 

Jack McLean Henderson

CHARLESTON, SC — Jack McLean Henderson, 62, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 6, 2014.

A Celebration of Jack's Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2014 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date at the beach house he loved. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel on Saturday, August 9, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service.

Jack was born April 24, 1952 in High Point, North Carolina, son of Bettie Jarvis Morris and the late William McKinley Henderson. He was retired from sales and a member of the Charleston Rifle Club. He loved to shop, especially exploring antiques. Jack loved to have fun, going to the beach, and being with his friends, and especially his faithful dog, Christy. He was known for his outgoing personality and never met a stranger and was much loved by all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved mother, Bettie J. Morris of Charleston; his partner of 23 years, Robert Keith Grey of Charleston, SC; his sister, Beverly Dillard and her husband, Thom of Salisbury, NC; his nieces and nephews, Kristin Haynes, Kim Dillard, and Alex Dillard; and his grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Parker, Emory, Branson, and Finley. He is also survived by his special friend, Laverne. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenny.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jack's name to the Charleston Rifle Club, 2221 Heriot Street, Charleston, SC 29403 or Pet Helpers, 1447 Folly Road, James Island, SC 29412.

ASHEBORO — Carl Gene Latham, 78,  died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2014.

A funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10,  at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel.  The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 9,  at Ridge Funeral Home in Asheboro.

LEXINGTON — Ethel Mize Leatherman, 98, died Monday, Aug. 4, 2014.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8,  at Shiloh United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.

HIGH POINT — Patricia Rose Meadows, 65, a resident of High Point died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home Sedgefield Chapel.

 

Jack Thompson

HIGH POINT — Mr. Jack Leon Thompson, 93, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at High Point Regional.

Jack was born in Athens, GA, April 16, 1921, a son of the late Lafayette Jackson Thompson and Minnie Hughes Thompson. He was a decorated Navy veteran of W.W.II, serving on the mine sweeper Osprey in the Atlantic, Pacific and East China Sea before the ship was sunk at the invasion of Normandy. Jack retired from High Point University after 20 years of service. He was a former member of the V.F.W. and of the Baptist faith. Jack was preceded in death by his former wives, Bonnie Thompson and Bobbie Brawley-Thompson; a son, John Thompson and ten siblings.

Surviving are five daughters, Jane Cummings and husband Ricky, Jeannette Hardeman, Faye Hayden, Marjie Stephens and husband Bud, and Billie Doster and husband Bob; three sons, Kip Thompson and wife Kimberly, Tim Thompson and wife Phyllis and Jack Thompson, Jr. and wife Barbara; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Jack’s life will be held Monday, August 11, at 2 p.m. in the Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel by Pastor Rodney Smith. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.

NEW YORK — Mrs. Esdail McCoy Venable, 100, died on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at Seaview Hospital in Staten Island, New York, where she resided the past seven years.
