Gary Arthur Anderson

GREENSBORO — Gary Arthur Anderson, 64, passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013. Funeral service will be at Triad Cremation Society & Chapel Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be at 11:00 a.m.
 

Rossie G. Gardner

HIGH POINT — Rossie G. Gardner of High Point died on June 23, 2013, at Hospice House of the Piedmont.

He was born Aug. 15, 1931, in Mt. Airy, N.C., a son of John Hardin Wade Gardner & Gertrude Chilton Gardner. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1949. He served four years in the US Air Force, volunteering soon after the beginning of the Korean War. Upon his discharge, he attended High Point College and then Wake Forest University, where he received his law degree in 1959. Following graduation from law school, he became a Research Assistant to the late Justice Emery B. Denny of the North Carolina Supreme Court. He was appointed Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina by U.S. Attorney General William P. Rogers. Later, he served as a Special Agent of the FBI in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

He then returned to High Point to enter his private law practice. In his second year of law practice he became the only Republican ever elected Prosecuting Attorney of the High Point Municipal Court, an office he held for four years before re-entering private law practice full time. He was a member of the Bar for the Middle District and the Eastern District Federal Courts and the 18th Judicial District of NC. He retired from the practice of law in 2002.

In 1980 he married Ramona Matthews who survives at the home. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Gardner Cates of High Point, NC; son, Eric Lee Gardner of Wilmington, NC; son, Mark Brian Gardner of High Point, NC; daughter, Mika Lynn Gardner of Denver, CO; daughter, Lea Gardner Tikka and husband Ali of Vassa Finland; daughter Kelly Tricia Gardner of Wilmington, NC. Grandchildren include Ashley, Benjamin, Sophie, and Luka.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Charles R. Gardner in 1991 and Donald W. Gardner in 2005, and his mother Gertrude Chilton Gardner in 1992.

Kurt Van Hedrick

DENTON — Kurt Van Hedrick, 57, of Denton passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013. A service to celebrate Kurt’s life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. from the graveside in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Arrangements by Cumby Family Funeral Service of Archdale.
 

Marie Hilliard

LEXINGTON — Mrs. Marie Kepley Hilliard, 74, of Price Road, died Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington. Funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 27, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Hedrick’s Grove Reformed United Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home.
 

Phil “Pop” Lovell

FRANKLINVILLE — Mr. Phillip Gene “Pop” Lovell, 71, of Franklinville, NC, died Monday, June 24, 2013. A memorial service is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Cornerstone Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at the home. Dorothy Kirkman Marshall

HIGH POINT — Mrs. Dorothy Kirkman Marshall, age 100, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013, in the Triad Care, Inc. of High Point.

Mrs. Marshall was born in High Point on April 23, 1913, to Percy Von and Susie Gurley Kirkman. She was a 1934 graduate of Duke University with an A.B. Degree and taught in the public schools at Dover, Sanford and High Point. Mrs. Marshall was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and the Adult Fellowship Class of the Sunday School. She was also a member of the Hum and Hoe Garden Club and was talented with her needle work. She was preceded in death by her siblings; Miss Mae Kirkman, Mrs. Nancy Poston, Mr. P. V. Kirkman, Jr. and Mr. Thomas C. Kirkman. Sr.

On December 27, 1939, she married Henry Wade Marshall, who also preceded her in death in 1998.

Surviving are two sons; Henry Wade Marshall, Jr. of St. Cloud, FL; and David K. Marshall of High Point;  two grandchildren Stephen Marshall and Amy Marshall Milliard; and two great-grandchildren; Brennan and Kyle Milliard.

A memorial service will be held Thursdy at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church by the Dr. Rev. Al Ward. Inurnment in the church columbarium will be at a later date. The family will receive friends in the Asbury Room of the church following the service.

Patty Garner Misenheimer

BURLINGTON — Mrs. Patty Garner Misenheimer, 70, of 407 Portsmouth Court, Burlington, died with her family by her side at Alamance Regional Medical Center on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at 8:40 p.m. following a year and a half battle with inflammatory breast cancer.

A native of Davidson County, she was the wife of Vernon Misenheimer, who survives. Patty was the daughter of Nereus Alson Garner and Ruby Chandler Shaw Garner, both deceased. She was a graduate of Denton High School and Ashmore Business College. For more than 20 years, she was a merchandiser for American Greetings. Patty was a member of Macedonia Lutheran Church.

In addition to her husband, survivors include a son, Lee Misenheimer and wife Stephanie of Brooklyn, NY; two daughters, Lori Miller and husband Andy of Clayton and Sarah Misenheimer of Burlington; one grandson, Otto Misenheimer of Brooklyn, NY; two granddaughters, Harper and Phoebe Miller of Clayton; two sisters, Gayle Garner Lamb and husband Joe of Boiling Springs and Anna Shaw Burleson of New Carrolton, MD; and three brothers, N. A. Garner and wife Joyce and James Garner and wife Bonnie, all of Denton, and Nolan Garner and wife Polly of Lexington.

A memorial service will be conducted at Macedonia Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 29, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. by Pastor Stephen C. Rust and Pastor Suzanne Shoffner with the family receiving friends at the church following the service. Other times they will be at the residence.

OAK RIDGE — Darlene Elaine (Eaton) Shields, 61, passed away Monday, June 24, 2013, at her residence. A celebration of life service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 5959 Hickory Grove Road, Greensboro. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.

ASHEBORO — Mrs. Jacksie Hall Staley, 69, of Fieldcrest Court, died Monday, June 24, 2013, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, June 28, 2013, at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Thomasville. Interment will follow in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
