THOMASVILLE — Mr. Eskil I. Anderson, 90, formerly of Virginia Beach and Thomasville, husband of the late Ruth Husk Anderson and a resident of The Hermitage on the Eastern Shore, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2014. He was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, retiring as a Chief, before working over 25 years at the Naval Air Rework Facility in Norfolk, Virginia.
Mr. Anderson is survived by two daughters, Kristine Stephens and her husband John of Belle Haven, Va., Karin Anderson and her husband William Snead of Austin, TX, as well as two daughters by marriage, Jane Flythe and her husband Richard of Gilbert, S.C. and Patricia Troutman and her husband James of Virginia Beach, Va., many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren and a brother-in-law, George Mills of Colonia, N.J. Mr. Anderson sustained memberships in the Order of the Eastern Star, was a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, as well as Shriners International, a fraternity based on fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth.
Born in Kristinehamn, Sweden, he became a naturalized citizen after moving to the United States. As a very young man he joined the Navy and served aboard several Navy ships, including the USS Randolph and the USS Essex during World War II and the USS Forestal in late 1950s. During his military service in Virginia Beach, Eskil Anderson was stationed at Oceana Naval Air Station.
Following a private family service, Mr. Anderson will be laid to rest in the cemetery at Emanuel Reformed Church in Thomasville, N.C. Saturday, March 22, 2014 at 1 p.m. with Rev. Rickey Payne officiating and full Military Honors will be provided. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to The United States Navy Memorial or to Hospice and Palliative Care of the Eastern Shore. LEXINGTON — Angela Eileen Hancock, 54, of Pickard Circle, passed away Friday, March 14, at Wake Forest Baptist- Lexington Medical Center. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
HIGH POINT — Mr. William “Bill” Hawley, 83, died March 14, 2014. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Thomasville Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
HIGH POINT — Bertha Irene Hunt, 85, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2014, at Abbotts Creek Center in Lexington. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2014, in the chapel of Sechrest Funeral Home on E. Lexington Ave., High Point, N.C. with Reverend Roy Cantrell officiating. The family will receive friends immediately after the service. Other times the family will be at the residence of son, Rick Hunt. Irene attended Wallburg Baptist Church and enjoyed the simple things in life: reading, feeding the birds and caring for and spending time with family, all of whom will miss her dearly.
She was pre-deceased by mother, Mary Jane Hudson Farmer and is survived by her husband Jack Hunt, son Rick Hunt (Kay), brother Robert Hudson (Degayia), grandchildren Christy Palmer (Donald), Bradley Hunt (Carrie), great grandchildren Logan Palmer, Cooper and Sutton Hunt all of Winston Salem, nephews Christopher Hudson (Megan) of Huntersville, Todd Hudson of Raleigh and Rodney Hudson (Jill) of Walnut Creek, Calif. and great nieces Carley Jane and Georgia Nicole Hudson and Scarlett Wren Hudson. The family expresses heartfelt appreciation to the staff of Abbotts Creek Center for the extraordinary love and exceptional care provided for Irene during her stay there. LEXINGTON — Mary Lillie Fulp Leonard, 90, of Goforth Lake Road, died March 16, 2014, at Forsyth Medical Center. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 10 to 11 a.m.

THOMASVILLE — Don Burnham Lloyd, 85, of Thomasville, died peacefully March 15, 2014, at Hospice Home of High Point with his beloved family by his side. He was born on April 2, 1928, and was a lifelong resident of Thomasville. Mr. Lloyd attended Thomasville High School and after graduation in 1945, he began working for State Commercial Bank in Thomasville. He served in the Army Signal Corps for 2 years during the Korean War and then obtained his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from High Point University in 1958. He retired from Bank of America, formerly North Carolina National Bank, in 1990 after a 43 year career in local banking. He served his community and customers with honesty and integrity. During his life, Don was active in many community service organizations. He was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Thomasville where he served on the vestry and as senior warden.
Mr. Lloyd will best be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He passes on a reverence for life and love and a kind spirit of humility and simplicity to the family that he so proudly cherished. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Charlotte Browning Lloyd, and three children: Mr. Doug Lloyd and wife Patti, Dr. Susan Lloyd Merriman and husband Jim and Dr. Elizabeth Lloyd Golding and husband Christopher and five granddaughters: Lilly Lloyd, Amelia Lloyd, Eva Golding, Erin Golding and Norah Merriman who gave him the gift of laughter and joy, especially as he courageously faced the last few years of his life. Don was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Ouida Lloyd and his siblings Joseph Lloyd, Austin Lloyd, Peggy Tucker and Ruth Jones.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2014, at 10 a.m. at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 303 Eastchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262. At his request, a private graveside inurnment for the family will immediately follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent by mail or online to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262 or to St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont for their exceptional care.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Forest Hill Memorial Park. There will be no formal visitation. Davidson Funeral Home is serving the family.
