Thomasville police on Friday were searching for a person who robbed a woman at gunpoint in a grocery store parking lot.
Officers responded to Just Save at 1418 National Highway at 8:54 p.m. Thursday in reference to the robbery of a customer as she was leaving the store.
Police said the female customer was loading groceries into her vehicle when she noticed a person walking toward her. Police described the person as a thin black male, approximately 6 feet tall, 140 pounds, 20 to 30 years old, wearing a black sweatshirt, dark pants and a mask covering his face.
As the woman got into her vehicle, the suspect also entered the vehicle, police said. The suspect brandished a handgun and demanded the woman’s pocket book, police said.
When the woman screamed, two other patrons leaving Just Save observed the suspect in the vehicle. The two patrons confronted the suspect and the woman was able to run to safety. The suspect drove from the scene in the victim’s vehicle.
The vehicle was found by police a short time later behind Sebastian Mattress at 1432 National Highway. No injuries were reported.
