TMC gets ready for Day of Dance
Thomasville is offering residents a day of fun, fellowship and dance in its 2013 Day of Dance For Your Health.
The free event will be held in the gym of Thomasville High School, at 410 Unity St., from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Feb. 23. Jane Wilder, TMC spokesperson, said the program is a part of a nationwide event, happening in all Spirit of Women hospitals. The event combines the fun of dancing to different kinds of music, such as rock ’n’ roll, jazz, salsa, swing and hip-hop.
“We are going to have a lot of fun. We will be learning new dances, including one designed to teach women the symptoms of heart disease,” Wilder said. “It is a good way to get the information out and help create a healthier community.”
Cholesterol, body mass index and blood pressure screenings will be available.
“We want people to know their numbers so that they can be more aware of the risk of heart disease,” Wilder said. “We want to inspire folks to change their lifestyles in a unique way.”
There also will be games, door prizes, cooking demonstrations and heart healthy information and recipes available. Those attending also can participate in the making of a YouTube video at 11:40 a.m., which will be uploaded before people leave.
Those wanting to dance are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes that they can move and dance in.
“We are trying to get everyone up and active, as a family, too. We want everyone to come out and get involved,” Wilder said.
