Police are still investigating the case of a 15-year-old who was reported missing in April.
Scarlett DeLoach, 15, was last seen on April 30 at her father’s home on Richland Street. Her father, Michael DeLoach, said he believes she left to be with a boyfriend that they did not approve of.
“I got up one morning to get her ready for school and she just wasn’t there. She has always been a happy kid. I think that she had a good childhood, but when she met this guy, she slowly started to change,” her father said.
DeLoach said looking back, it seems that she withdrew from her friends and became obsessed with the young man.
“I told them that they were not going to be together. She tried to leave with him before, and he has come to my home before, and I asked him to leave,” Michael said. “I know that they had been in contact with each other anyway.”
A report was filed with High Point police the morning of May 1. The Center for Search and Investigations for Missing Children has begun distributing posters about Scarlett.
“There have been reports that they have been seen together around the Greensboro, Reidsville and Summerfield area, but that is all that I know right now,” Michael said.
DeLoach was sent to live with her father, Michael, in High Point in an attempt to separate her from her then-boyfriend in Reidsville. She stayed with him for three weeks before running away, said High Point police Capt. Mike Kirk.
Police have cleared the boyfriend.
“We have ruled him out and think that this is just a legitimate runaway,” Kirk said. “We don’t have any clues right now. There are signs all over Reidsville, but they feel like she is not there.”
Scarlett has been entered into the missing persons system. Meanwhile, her parents wait to hear from her.
“All I am doing is what I can, which is hoping and praying that she will come back to us safely,” Michael said. “I want people to keep an eye out for her and keep her prayers. If they see her, contact the High Point or Reidsville police departments.
She is described as being 5 feet and 2 inches tall and weighing 120 pounds. She is believed to have brown hair, blue eyes, a tongue piercing and belly ring. She has two scars on her left knee, one of them is very large.
Anyone with information on Scarlett’s location should call High Point Crimestoppers at (336) 889-4000. The Reidsville Crimestoppers line is (336) 349-9683.
