Help local charities by dining out Tuesday

Local shelters are hoping that residents will give the stove a rest Tuesday and dine out instead for a cause.
Open Door Ministries of High Point, in partnership with West End Ministries, will host the fourth annual Dining Out for Hunger. The community is encouraged to dine out for breakfast, lunch or dinner in support of the fight to end hunger.
“This means a lot to so many people,” said Chris Gillespie, executive director of West End Ministries. “Our numbers are steadily increasing and our supplies are steadily decreasing. It is an opportunity for everyone to give back to the community.”
This year 32 restaurants are participating and agreed to donate 10 percent of all sales from the event to the shelters. The funds from this year’s event will allow both organizations to continue serving the families on a daily basis through their food pantries and community meals.
“It is important for people to come out because this is a fundraising event that helps both shelters feed people in our community,” said Steve Key, executive director of Open Door Ministries.
Open Door Ministries has served 2,052 households from the food pantry in the past year in addition to the 117,797 meals provided by the shelter’s Father’s Table.
West End Ministries has provided 1,493 food boxes to the community and has served over 35,000 meals in the past year through their food ministry.
“These programs allow people to have food and eat, when they don’t have the opportunity to provide for themselves,” Key said. “It is a struggle for each organization to bring in enough food to provide for hunger needs.” | 888-3657
