Archdale Police Department is promoting one of its own in rank.
Master Police Officer John Michael Andrews II was  promoted to patrol sergeant Monday night during a ceremony held at City Hall.
“I am excited but a little nervous too. I can’t wait to get started,” Andrews said. “I have been doing this a long time but I want to make sure that I do everything right.”
Andrews has been employed with the Archdale Police Department since November 2008 and has more than 20 years of law enforcement experience. He has been with Archdale for five years. Before that he was an officer at Carolina Beach in Wilmington and worked 12 years with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office.
He has served as a police officer, field training officer, assistant team leader and canine handler. As a sergeant, Andrews will be responsible for supervising four people including communications personnel. He will be responsible for keeping up with employees, time sheets for his shift, and responding to calls.
“There is more responsibility,” Andrews said. “I’m still working the streets and I’m not in the office all day. I will still help answer calls and give backup when needed. My main job is to make sure I am here for the people on my shift and to make sure they are doing their job.”
Andrews said that he had a lot of positive feedback from his brothers and sisters in blue.
“They are congratulating me and letting me know that I should keep doing what I’m doing,” Andrews said. “I’m ready to get my feet wet. I am thankful for the city for giving me this opportunity.”
Police Chief Shannon Craddock said that Andrews is a good spirited officer.
“His view of things in life are very positive and optimistic. Mike has good rapport with all employees and strangers feel at ease and optimistic,” Craddock said. “He reports to work daily with a consistent smile and has the ability to be tough when the situation dictates. I look forward to having him be a part of our supervisory staff and the contribution he will bring to reaching our departmental goals.”
Councilman Roger Blackwell calls Andrews an asset to the community and the police department.
“He has been and will continue to be,” Blackwell said. “He has been in law enforcement several years and with his experience and time with Archdale, it is a justified promotion.” | 888-3657
