One injured in church roof collapse
A construction worker is lucky to walk away with minor injuries after escaping a trusses collapse at a church that is under construction.
Emergency personnel was called to 1001 Skeet Club Road at between 4:30 and 4:45 p.m. in reference to a roof collapse.
An investigation by the fire inspector found that a six-person crew was placing trusses on the roof of the church, Sikh Association of the Triad, with a crane when the trusses began to fall.
One man was inside the frame of the church and was able to run and roll out of the structure before the beams completely collapsed.
The man received a cut on the chin, abrasions and contusions, but refused medical treatment offered at the scene, according to Deputy Chief Tim Wright.
“He was very fortunate, because about 15 to 20 trusses fell,” Wright said.
The construction company listed at the site was DTC Construction out of Greensboro.
A stop work order has been placed on the construction until it is cleared by a building inspector.
