A California biopharmaceutical company announced Tuesday that it will build its East Coast logistics center and specialty pharmacy near High Point.
FFF Enterprises, Inc. plans to locate in an 80,000-square-foot facility in Triad Business Park just north of Interstate 40 in the Guilford County portion of Kernersville.
The company plans to invest $7.6 million and create 31 jobs over three years with an average salary of $41,000.
The announcement is a joint project of the High Point, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem economic development groups, which have been working together with the company to find a site since 2007.
“This has very much been a regional project — in the town of Kernersville, served by city of High Point sewer, in Guilford County,” said High Point Economic Development Corp. President Loren Hill.
The company, based in Temecula, Calif., is a leading distributor of influenza vaccines, critical-care biopharmaceuticals, and other plasma products.
The company currently employs about 200 people, and the new site will be its second location.
Company officials said they chose it, in part, because it allows them better access to about 70 percent of its 48,000 customers.
Hill said another draw for the company was the site’s proximity to High Point University, which plans to open a school of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in 2016.
Its proximity to the FedEx Ground facility, which is also in Triad Business Park, as well as the presence of the FedEx cargo hub at nearby Piedmont Triad International Airport were also important factors in FFF Enterprises’ decision to locate in the area, officials said.
“FFF Enterprises represents two of the five industry clusters we focus on: life/bioscience and supply chain logistics. They are an industry leader with strong management, and their decision to locate in the Triad further validates our cluster strategy,” said Dan Lynch, president of the Greensboro Economic Development Alliance.
Samet Corp., developer of the Triad Business Park, will construct the new facility.
