Dog mauls 5-year-old boy
Emergency personnel responded to a dog attack Saturday afternoon at a home on Newell Street.
High Point police said the attack happened at a home in the 900 block of Newell Street at 12:30 p.m.
“The call indicated that there were some traumatic injuries,” said Capt. Tom Hanson. “When they arrived, officers determined that a 5-year-old boy had been mauled by either one or two pit bulls inside the house.”
Hanson said the child was from out of state and visiting relatives. At the time of the attack they believe that the he, along with other children, were playing in the home.
He suffered injuries to his face and neck, including fractures to the face. The boy was taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for treatment. There was no update on his condition at press time Saturday.
Both dogs were removed from the home and are quarantined. Hanson said there will be no criminal charges filed at this time.
