The Rev. Raymond A. Petrea has become the new minister at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church.
Petrea has served congregations in North Carolina, Georgia and Virginia. He was on the administrative staff of then-High Point College from 1974-81 as director of public relations and campus pastor to Lutheran students.
As a member of the College News Association of the Carolinas, he was awarded their highest honor in 1980 for his professional excellence. Following his staff position at the college, he was commissioned to write a book on public relations for congregations that was published by Parish Life Press, a subsidiary of Augsburg-Fortress.
Petrea then joined the corporate staff of Lutheran Services for the Aging Inc. based in Salisbury. He subsequently organized the foundation for the agency and became its first president.
He retired from full-time pastoral work in 1996 and has served as interim pastor to Lutheran congregations throughout Guilford, Alamance and Randolph counties, including Emmanuel Lutheran Church in High Point and New Covenant Lutheran in Archdale.
Petrea succeeds the Rev. Robert Bush, who was pastor of St. Michael’s until his retirement at the first of November. The church is at 100 Skeet Club Road at the intersection with N. Main Street.
St. Michael’s is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, which has 4.2  million members in 10,000 congregations.
