The Silver Valley Civitan Club executed its 46th annual Project Santa Monday morning. According to its President Sara Barker, the event was a huge success.
“Things went really well today. We helped 40 families and there were 137 kids on the list,” Barker said. “This event brings joy to us just as much as it does to the little kids that get the presents.”
The club collects names of local households for Santa to pay close attention to and make sure that those children receive gifts for Christmas. The planning begins early with home visits, followed by hours of shopping, picking up donations and wrapping gifts. Barker said that seeing the looks on the faces of those who receive gifts make it all worthwhile.
“The homes that we went to you could see that the children were happy to see Santa bring their gifts,” Barker said. “Their little faces just lit up when they saw Santa come to their homes. If it was not for us going into some of these homes, these little kids would not have Christmas.”
