CIS gears up for dancing fundraiser

Feb. 12, 2013 @ 02:26 PM

It’s time again to see just who may be the best dancers in High Point.
A group of well-known High Pointers will begin practicing soon for the “Dancing with the High Point Stars” fundraising event for Communities In Schools.  The event will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 23 at Showplace in downtown High Point.
Local dancers include High Point Mayor Bernita Sims, CeCe Biesecker of Cyoga Studios, Matt Cothran of Smart Choice, Matt Thiel, Melissa Calabrese, a real estate broker and insurance agent, Rosalyn Pauling of Ralph Lauren, Tammy Nagem of the High Point Market Authority, and Wil Elder of the N.C. Shakespeare Festival.
The local dancers will receive awards for most votes, best dance and best costume.
The local “stars” will be paired with professional dancers from Fred Astaire Dance Studios. The 2012 event was attended by 500 people and raised $45,000 for CIS programs.
The event promises a fun night of dancing, according to sponsors, with special performances from the Fred Astaire professional dancers, Tracey McCain of WFMY-TV, attorney Jim Morgan and 2012 winners Karen Odom and Gregory Mishura of Fred Astaire Dance Studios.
There also will be plenty of open dance time for everyone to enjoy. Anyone can cast a “vote” for $10 without attending the event and you can cast as many votes as you like.
CIS graduates and volunteers will share their testimonies and successes of how their experiences have impacted their lives. Money from the event supports the CIS mission to offer students a one-on-one relationship with a caring adult, a safe place to learn and grow, a healthy start and a healthy future, a marketable skill to use upon graduation, and a chance to give back to peers and community.
