Tenant arrested in landlord shooting
Greensboro police have arrested a man in connection with the death of a landlord from High Point earlier this week.
Curtis Leon Abney Jr., 26, a tenant of Wendover Manor, was arrested and taken into custody Wednesday night and charged with first degree murder in conjunction with the fatal shooing of the Marwan Mukhiber Mujali, the owner of Wendover Manor. Greensboro police spokesperson Susan Danielsen said police did not get many leads or tips in the shooting case.
“This was actually solved by good investigative work,” Danielsen said. “It always comes down to the basics.”
Abney was arrested at 9 p.m. in Buies Creek with the assistance from agents with the Alcohol Law Enforcement, the State Bureau of Investigation and the FBI Safe Streets Task force.
He currently is being held in the Greensboro Detention Center without bond.
According to police, the shooting followed a dispute between Abney and Mujali, although the reason for the dispute is not clear.
“We have not gotten a good explanation from the subject,” Danielsen said.
Mujali, 45, was found shot inside a white van at the Wendover Manor Apartment complex located on E. Wendover Avenue on Tuesday at around 10:47 a.m.
He was taken to Moses Cone Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police responded to the scene after receiving calls to 911 about gunshots in the area.
