Authorities say a black bear has been struck and killed by a vehicle on Interstate 40 west of Winston-Salem.
Police said the bear was found around 6 a.m. Saturday near exit 188 in Clemmons. The vehicle that struck the animal did not stop. Wildlife officials took the bear's body.
Several people reported seeing a bear in the area Friday eating out of a bird feeder or near a movie theater. Police told residents to stay inside and be careful.
Authorities say the bear that was killed was a similar size, but they don't know if it is the same animal that was in the area the day before.
