Investigators still working on cause of house fire
An afternoon house fire has left fire marshals looking for clues in the backyard of a charred house on Johnson Street.
High Point Fire Department responded to a call at 1426 Johnson Street around 1:18 p.m. According to Capt. Denita Lynch, no one was at home at the time of the fire and when crews arrived they could see flames on the attic of the house.
“We know right now that the origin of the fire was on the rear exterior of the home,” Lynch said. “We are told that there was a gentleman who worked for Belfor was next door and tried to put the fire out with an extinguisher but couldn’t.”
The fire spread to the attic of the house from the outside, according to Lynch. The family who lives there was renting the home. There is severe damage to rear and attic of the house, but estimated damage was not known Monday evening.
