Stories of hope, healing and love: Open Door holds annual banquet

May. 06, 2013 @ 02:32 AM

Open Door Ministries wants people to come out for a night filled with fellowship and love for a good cause.
The nonprofit will host its 2013 annual banquet on Tuesday at the High Point Country Club at 800 Country Club Road. The silent auction will open at 5:30 p.m. and the banquet will begin at 6 p.m. The auction will feature items from Slane jewelry, Bassett furniture and gift cards from local businesses.
“The annual banquet is one of our major fundraising events,” said Leslie Graham, executive assistant at Open Door. “It helps us fund our programs and services in the community. This year we are focusing on food, housing, healing and hope.”
Executive Director Steve Key said the event as gives the organization a chance to share its success and future plans with the community.
“This is an opportunity for us to share with our supporters what is going on at Open Door Ministries,” Key said. “We will also share a vision of what we will being working this fiscal year. We have some new things that we would like to bring to the table, along with the things we are doing now. I think this is something that people would enjoy being at and will come away feeling good about what we are doing in the community now and what we look forward to doing in the future.”
The banquet will offer a time for participants to fellowship and get to know each other.
Another highlighted aspect of the banquet is the impact that Open Door Ministries has had on clients that have come to the shelter in search of food, housing or a friend to give them hope.
“We are focusing on clients that have specifically used these services and are pairing them with board members and staff as a way to introduce them to each other and help one understand the other,” Graham said. “The board or staff member will then introduce them and their story to the audience.  We thought this would be a good way to for our board members and staff to get to know what our clients go through on a more intimate level.” | 888-3657
