Bank fund will help support Richardson family

High Point Bank has come up with another way for local citizens to get on the Heather Richardson bandwagon — with a financial contribution.
The bank has established a fund through which donors can help the Olympic speedskater’s High Point family recoup some of the money spent supporting her remarkable speedskating career through the years.
“Apparently, it’s pretty expensive to have a child make the Olympics,” said Susan Apple, executive vice president of the retail banking group for High Point Bank. “We talked about it and decided it was important to establish this fund to help the family pay for travel to see their daughter compete.”
The High Point Enterprise reported last week that several individuals in the High Point community had donated money so Richardson’s father, Jeff, could go to the Olympics with his wife, Pat, to watch their daughter compete. He wouldn’t have been able to go otherwise, because of the cost.
The fund now being established will help pay for past expenses the family has incurred, Apple said.
Checks are preferred and can be made out to High Point Bank, with “Richardson Family Fund” written on the memo line.
Tax-deductible donations can be dropped off at any High Point Bank branch or mailed to: High Point Bank, P.O. Box 2270, High Point, N.C. 27261.
“This is just one of those feel-good stories that makes you smile, and we wanted to be a part of that,” Apple said.
