Day In the Park set for today
The High Point Area Arts Council will present its 43rd annual Day in the Park Festival today at City Lake Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
There will be plenty of activities for kids. Also, attendees will have a chance to visit the Marketplace Bazaar to display and sell their original pieces, including pottery, jewelry, photography, note cards, stained glass, wooden and sewn crafts. There will be folk life exhibits set up around the park that will include historic games, quilting, soap making, basket weaving, spinning and Revolutionary War re-enactors.
Food vendors are expected including funnel cakes, roasted corn, polish sausage, pizza, burgers and kettle corn.
There will be two stages set up at the event, one featuring community groups and local talent while the other features local bands.
Field Stage Performances will include:
• 11 a.m. - Andrews Marching Band
• Noon - Eric & The Chill Tones
• 2 p.m. - Cufflinx
• 3:30 p.m. - EnVision
Carousel stage performances will include:
• 11:30 p.m. - Andrews Marching Band
• Noon - Audrey Puschinsky - violinist
• 12:45 - Rowdy Robin - The storytelling pirate
• 1 p.m. - Andrews Marching Band
• 1:45 p.m. - Drum Circle led by Robin Leftwich
• 3:15 p.m. - Easy Greens
• 4 p.m. - Freestyle Drum Circle
Children’s Adventure Island will offer kids a variety of arts activities, including talking like a pirate and the Pirate Costume Contest. There will be all-day ride tickets available for $6, which include the train, carousel, miniature golf, inflatables and the rock climbing wall.
Children will be able to dance along with the Andrews Marching Band, and there will be participation craft projects hosted by local nonprofits including the Theatre Art Galleries, Westchester Country Day School, YWCA and the Andrews Marching Band.
