Organizers take applications for MLK parade
The organization will host the 13th annual parade on Saturday, Jan. 18, at 3 p.m.
Applications currently are being accepted for parade entries and will continue to be accepted until Friday, Jan. 17.
“We continue to do this because it has really grown since we switched to Green Street,” said Carlvena Foster, executive director. “It is our social responsibility to be able to recognize and keep at the forefront the accomplishments of Martin Luther King and who they have impacted and the freedoms that we enjoy today.”
Entries are open to marching bands, step teams, civic organizations, fraternities and sororities, faith groups, sports teams, schools, floats, bikers and businesses.
“Anybody can join the parade, so no one is prohibited,” Foster said. “It is a community event. The streets are just lined, and people look forward to it. This year we are going to have the Livingstone College band participating.”
The parade route will start at Brentwood and E. Green streets. The lineup will begin at Brentwood and end at Leonard Street beginning at 2 p.m.
The registration fee is $10.
