New Year’s Day shooting ruled attempted murder, suicide

 Davidson County sheriff’s deputies are now calling a New Year’s Day shooting that left one man dead an attempted murder and suicide.
“We feel like Mr. Hughes shot his wife and then shot himself,” said Sheriff David Grice. “We don’t have a motive.”
Authorities were called to the 1200 block of Old Highway 109 at 10:40 a.m. in reference to a shots being fired at the residence. The area is between Ernest Snider and Hal Parrish roads in the Silver Valley Community.
Once on the scene, deputies found William Luther Hughes, 71, of the residence dead and his wife, Virgie Lambeth Hughes, 70, in serious condition. Police said she did not have life-threatening injuries.
Grice said deputies have been called out to the residence before for domestic related issues.
