Dean To Take HR Job
Guilford County Manager Mary Lawing has hired John A. Dean, Forsyth County human resources director, to lead the county’s human resources department.
Lawing said he offered Dean the job after a two-month search. Dean has 20 years experience in human resources and previously worked for Davidson and Rockingham counties. He also spent time in the private sector.
Dean will start Sept. 3 to supervise a department of 17 full-time employees with a budget of $2.5 million and to manage work for 2,370 full-time employees.
Dean’s salary will be $125,000 a year.
Dean has a bachelors degree in Psychology from Pfeiffer University. He has industry certifications from the International Public Management Association for Human Resources Certified Professional, the County Administration Course through the University of North Carolina School of Government and multiple instructor training certifications.
Dean is a member of the Society for Human Resources Management and the North Carolina International Personnel Management Association.
County officials are working on two tracks to fill several key administrative posts. Last week, the Board of Commissioners hired Robin Keller, a veteran county employee, as the new clerk to the board. The other top jobs Lawing is working to fill include EMS director and planning department director. Lawing said hiring a human resources director to succeed long-time director Sharisse Fuller, who also was an assistant county manager, was his top priority.
