Gun found in Central classroom
A loaded gun was found on the High Point Central campus on Friday afternoon, according to Guilford County Schools.
School staff found the gun hidden in a classroom around 3 p.m., after a student tipped off a teacher.
High Point Central’s school resource officer arrested the student who brought the gun to school. In addition to felony criminal charges, the possession of a firearm on school property also violates the district’s student discipline policy, and can result in a 365-day suspension from school.
The school principal sent a recorded phone message to all High Point Central parents Friday afternoon to inform them of the situation, and to reinforce the importance of students sharing safety-related concerns with trusted adults. School safety concerns also may be reported anonymously to Campus Crime Stoppers. In High Point, Campus Crime Stoppers’ number is 889-4000. Students across Guilford County also can text tips to 274637 (CRIMES).
“The safety of our students and staff is our top priority,” said Principal Bob Christina. “We are deeply grateful that another High Point Central student did the right thing and told a teacher about the gun. As a result, no one was threatened, and no one was hurt.”
