Police are investigating an early Friday morning shooting that has left one man dead.
Police were called to Kenzie’s Event Center, at 401 Brentwood St., at 12:47 a.m. in response to a shooting. There they found Gerald Dwayne Williamson Sr., 28, of High Point, inside the club with multiple gunshot wounds.
He was taken to High Point Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“They were having a birthday party there last night when it got out of hand. I don’t know the details of it yet but something happened and someone brandished a weapon,” said Capt. Mike Kirk. “Shots were fired and we think this guy was the intended target. We are still working on exactly what happened.”
The investigation is being done by members of the High Point Police Department’s Violent Crime Unit.
“Officers worked until about 6 a.m. this morning before turning it over to day shift detectives. They are doing follow-up investigations and chasing down some Crimestoppers calls,” Kirk said.
Police do not have a suspect in custody.
Kirk said that police have received numerous calls from the address in the past.
“We have been called out there several times. We have had issues out there in the past and we are working on that too,” Kirk said.
This is the second homicide of the year for High Point.
High Point police is asking anyone with information to call Crimestoppers at (336) 889-4000.
