UPDATE: Man arrested after standoff, linked to startling video

UPDATED 8:05 A.M. WEDNESDAY

Thomasville police have arrested a man who barricaded himself inside a home Tuesday afternoon.

Officers negotiated with Rakeem Leverette for several hours. The incident happened on Reid Street near Emma Street. WXII first learned of the incident about 2 p.m.

A SWAT team was at the scene, and a handful of homes were evacuated.

Loverette is wanted in Charlotte and reportedly is the man caught on camera in a bizarre recent video in which a man is hanging onto the back of a passenger car traveling at high speed along Interstate 77 in Charlotte.

Thomasville police term the standoff a domestic situation. Other people were inside the home when the incident started, but were removed.

The incident was never a hostage situation, police said. No injuries were reported.
