Archdale officer hurt in wreck
An Archdale Police Department officer was hurt Tuesday evening when a pickup smashed into his police cruiser in a neighborhood of the northern Randolph County city.
According to authorities, the driver of the pickup was driving through a neighborhood in southern Archdale about 8:20 p.m. When the driver of the pickup made a sudden turn from Gregg Street to Robert Lane, a toolbox fell from the bed of the vehicle.
The driver of the pickup, Vernon Timothy Warren DeHart, 47, of Trinity, then stopped to retrieve the toolbox, according to authorities.
The Archdale police officer, who hadn't been identified as of this morning, arrived at the scene and parked nearby on Gregg Street. The driver of the pickup then pulled from Robert Lane onto Gregg Street and hit the patrol car, pushing it into a ditch.
An ambulance took the officer to High Point Regional Hospital. DeHart was taken by ambulance to Randolph Hospital in Asheboro with minor injuries, according to authorities.
The crash remains under investigation.
