Archdale OKs permit for Dollar General
Archdale residents will have more room when shopping at the Dollar General.
The Archdale City Council on Tuesday approved a high-density development permit for property at 10203 S. Main St. and 4406 Burgemere St. The applicant, Dearborn Land Investment care of The Zaremba Group, is seeking the permit for the potential development of a Dollar General. Now that it has obtained the development permit, the company is able to seek a zoning permit to start construction.
“They are adding a free-standing building. Dollar General will actually be moving from its current location in the Lowes Food center,” said Planning Director Jeff Wells. “It will be a significant increase to the property tax base, and it will be a significant boom for the city.”
The project is expected to be complete around September, according to Wells. The anticipated addition to the property tax base is $750,000 and the addition is expected to create or retain 12 jobs for the area.
“It will also create some additional jobs since it is a larger facility than the one they have in the Lowes Food center,” Wells said.
The city has been working for some time now to bring more business to the area. Wells said the city feels strongly that the trend will continue along that corridor.
“We think where this business will be located, it can certainly provide a catalyst for some additional development along S. Main Street,” Wells said. “First we had Sheetz last year, and now we have a Dollar General. This is an ideal area for additional highway-business-type development. We look forward to them being here and being successful.”
