HIGH POINT — High Point University will kick off the holiday season with the 42nd Annual Prayer Breakfast, featuring the Rev. John Fitzgerald, a High Point native, as guest speaker.
The event will be held at 7:30 a.m. Dec. 7 in the Millis Athletic/Convocation Center. The event is free and open to the public.
The annual event includes special music provided by the HPU Chapel Choir, directed by Marc Foster, as well as a silent prayer held in memory of alumni, members of the university family and the community, as well as other friends who have died during the past year.
Fitzgerald, senior pastor of Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte, has served on the Western North Carolina Conference Board of Ordained Ministry and was also in the first class of the Reynolds Academy, a two-year leadership program offered by Duke Divinity School.
Fitzgerald formerly served as senior minister of Covenant Church United Methodist, and his father, Bernard Fitzgerald, served as senior pastor of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. He is a member of the Reynolds L.E.A.D. (Leadership, Evangelism and Discipleship) program with which he has traveled to South Korea and throughout the U.S. studying successful churches.
