High Point University will welcome approximately 2,500 guests to campus this weekend for the annual Winter Family Weekend.
The event will offer a lecture series, entertainment, festivities, the first official men’s lacrosse game and more to HPU students and their families.
“We are excited to provide these opportunities to the families of our students; these events give them a remarkable look at the many projects and initiatives we have on campus,” said Don Scarborough, vice president for community relations. “Family Weekend also provides great entertainment, including performers and athletic events – providing quality time for students and their families.”
According to the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau, the event, along with two HPU Presidential Scholarship Weekends that will be held in February, will have an economic impact of nearly $1.3 million on the surrounding community.
The lecture series includes “Sustainability in Design Education” presented by Jane Nichols, HPU associate professor and department chair of Home Furnishings and Interior Design and a presentation from U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Thomas Shea on leadership and performance results achieved during his 25 year career as a Navy SEAL.
The weekend includes a choral concert, a Panther tailgate party as well as basketball games. The men’s lacrosse team will play Delaware.
