Big Brothers Big Sisters hosts beach bash
Although it still feels like winter, a local nonprofit is inviting the community to the beach.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Piedmont is hosting its annual fundraiser to help children in the area.
The Big Beach Bash will take place on Saturday at the International Home Furnishings Center 11th Floor, 201 East Green Dr. The sponsor and VIP reception begins at 6 p.m., and the event begins at 7 p.m.
“Our goal is to raise $100,000 with the dinner and campaign, which runs through Feb. 15,” said Wendy Rivers, CEO of BBBSCP. “It helps us serve about 300 kids because it covers two full-time staff members and those in Big Brothers Big Sisters programs and those on the waiting list.”
Rivers said that the organization is about half-way to its goal. One hundred percent of all proceeds raised from the event will go into the programs of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont.
Sponsorships are available from $500 “The Little Magic” friend sponsor to $10,000 “The Big” platinum sponsor. Tickets are $150 for individuals and $200 for couples and are available online.
The “Big of the Year” will also be announced during the Big Beach Blast. Part Time Party Time Band will play at the event.
Last year the event was at the Sedgefield Country Club and raised $76,000.
BBBSCP’s mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. The organization pairs an adult volunteer, or a Big, with a child, or a Little, between the age of 6 and 18 to develop positive relationships and help them learn to make good choices.
“Its January and it’s cold so let’s pretend like it’s warm and hear a great band playing beach music and have a lot of fun and help kids,” she said.
