Glitch causes false late notices

The city of High Point is warning some customers that they may mistakenly receive a late-due notice about their bills even if they have paid on time.
Earlier this month, the city installed a new software system for its customer service department. Late Monday afternoon, city officials said that some residents’ accounts are being credited with payments but still generating late notices. The problem affects customers who pay their bill by bank draft or equalized payment plans.
“The Customer Service Department advises customers to be patient as the problem should be resolved in the coming weeks. An issue with data conversion has been targeted as the root cause of the issue. Customers who have paid will not have service disconnected,” the city said in a statement.
In addition to calling the customer service office at 883-3111 with questions, customers can check their current balances online or visit payment locations at City Hall at 211 S. Hamilton St. or at the Parks and Recreation Administration office at 136 Northpoint Ave.
