Man uses propane tank to blow up van
A homeless man has been arrested for setting a car on fire during a dispute with the vehicle’s owner.
Micky Ray Tolbert, 60, is charged with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle, burning of personal property and malicious damage by use of an explosive or incendiary.
Thomasville police reported receiving a call at 1:15 a.m. on Tuesday, along with the Thomasville Fire Department, to 4026 Ball Park Road in reference to a vehicle fire. The owner of the 1994 GMC van was able to extinguish the fire before they arrived.
An investigation revealed that the fire was intentionally set to the inside of the vehicle, causing an estimated $1,4000 in damage.
“The victim and Micky Tolbert are acquaintances, and this incident resulted from an ongoing dispute between the two,” said Detective Steve Boles. “The malicious damage by use of an explosive or incendiary resulted from the placement of a 20-pound propane tank on the inside of the vehicle when the fire was started.”
The High Point Police assisted in locating Tolbert.
He received a $25,000 secured bond and was placed into the Davidson County Jail. His court date is set for July 31 in Thomasville.
