Development eyed for Wallburg intersection
Officials in the northeastern Davidson County town of Wallburg hope that rezoning a tract at a key intersection will lead to more shopping and business options for residents.
The Wallburg Town Council is considering whether to rezone two tracts covering 5.6 acres at N.C. 109 and Gumtree Road from a limited industrial to community shopping designation. A public hearing on the rezoning will take place at 7 p.m. May 13 at Wallburg Town Hall at 8020 North N.C. 109.
The tracts are undeveloped, said Guy Cornman, planning director for Davidson County. The county Planning and Zoning Department contracts with Wallburg to perform planning activities for the town.
One tract is approximately 1.9 acres, while the other nearby one is 3.7 acres. The sites are on the east side of N.C. 109 at the Gumtree Road intersection, according to a rezoning notice.
“They are speculating right now. But they would like to offer restaurant possibilities or some type of professional offices, such as doctors’ offices. It’s an area where we would want commercial development to happen,” Cornman told The High Point Enterprise.
A representative with the owner of the property couldn’t be reached Friday by the Enterprise.
