Man charged in rape of child
City detectives have charged a Thomasville man in connection with raping an 8-year-old girl earlier this month.
Robert Lee Ingram Jr., 45, of 119-B South St., Thomasville, has been charged with one count of first-degree statutory rape. Ingram was arrested without incident during an execution of a search warrant at his residence Thursday, Thomasville police say. The assault occurred Jan. 2.
Ingram’s secured bond was set at $1 million, and he was detained in the Davidson County Jail. His court date is set for Feb. 26 in Thomasville.
“Ingram was a friend of the family and was entrusted to watch the child at his residence while the parents were at work,” said Detective Chet Jarrell. “The arrest came after a culmination of evidence gained from a forensic interview and a medical exam of the child.”
