Thomasville DMV agency up for bid

The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles is accepting applications through Dec. 20 for the contract to operate the Thomasville area license plate agency.
The current agency operates under a contract that will expire this Saturday. DMV policy is to accept applications to run a license plate agency whenever a contract expires or ends.
The current agency, at 1033 Randolph St., suite 13, will continue to operate during the application process, the DMV reports. Typically it takes about four months to complete the application process.
The current operator of the Thomasville DMV office has the right to apply to continue running the agency, said DMV spokeswoman Marge Howell out of Raleigh. The winning bidder for the new contract would decide whether to keep the Thomasville DMV office at its current location or relocate it, Howell said.
License plate agency applications — Form MVR-93 or Form MVR-93AA — are located on the DMV website, which is www.ncdot.gov/dmv. Applicants can download an application form for a motor vehicle license plate agency office or call (919) 861-3332 for more information. The application must be returned to DMV no later Dec. 20.
License plate agencies offer vehicle registration services and title transactions, as well as vehicle license plate renewals, replacement tags and duplicate registrations. Currently, about 120 license plate agencies operate across North Carolina, according to the DMV.
