Roundup nets drugs and guns
The Thomasville Police Department has released its findings from a Dec. 13 drug bust where they arrested 43 out of 51 suspects.
During the search of the 11 locations, police say they found:
• 174 grams of marijuana
• 53 grams of cocaine
• two shotguns
• Various amounts of prescription drugs and EBT cards
Five Special Response Teams served 11 search warrants, with two of those teams from state Alcohol Law Enforcement, one from the Davidson County Sheriff’s office, one from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and one from TPD.
“This was a multiagency, comprehensive investigation of drug activity throughout Thomasville,” said City Manager Kelly Craver.
The four-month undercover operation began because of numerous complaints from Thomasville residents about drug networks and traffickers in the city, according to police.
The reports prompted the launch of ALE’s Community Betterment Initiative, a program that identifies communities in the state where residents are being held hostage by drugs, gangs and violence, according to the agency. Agents worked undercover to set up drug transactions with specific dealers in the area.
“This is one step in making neighborhoods safer from illicit drug activity,” Craver said.
