Suspected kidnapper found dead
A suspected kidnapper killed himself in Lexington early Monday morning.
Erick Lehr, 32, was suspected of kidnapping a woman in High Point. According to Lexington Police, the woman said Lehr kidnapped her in High Point and took her to the area near 130 Lexington Parkway where police were dispatched around 12:30 a.m. Lehr ran once the first officer arrived, police said. The woman that was kidnapped by Lehr is safe.
Lexington police officers searched for Lehr in the area on the ground and by air Monday around Lexington Business Park with help from Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, the North Carolina Highway Patrol, and the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
About 8 a.m., Lexington Police officers found Lehr in a storage room at the rear of the Gulf Station, a convenience store at 363 Hargrave Road. Lehr was dead. It appeared that Lehr had shot himself with a gun.
High Point Police Capt. Mike Kirk said that Lehr was a High Point resident and Lehr and the woman he kidnapped had a prior domestic relationship, most likely boyfriend and girlfriend.
This investigation is still ongoing and the Lexington Police Department is being assisted by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
