Fans of the Golden Arches soon will have another option to satisfy their hankerings for Big Macs.
A new McDonald’s is under construction at 6530 Old Plank Road in north High Point. The fast-food restaurant is expected to be open by mid-July, according to the company.
It will be the sixth McDonald’s location in the city.
The restaurant is expected to employ 75 people and will feature 24-hour drive-through and inside service. It will be similar to the McDonald’s at 1901 N. Main St. in look at feel, including digital drive-through menu boards, according to a corporate spokeswoman.
The new location won’t affect operations at any existing McDonald’s in the city, she added.
The owner/operator will be Herschel King, of King Management Group Inc. of High Point. A representative of that company could not be reached for comment.
The general manager will be Kim Crouch.
The restaurant is being built by Venture Construction Co. of Norcross, Ga., on a tract near Aldi Food Mart. It’s surrounded by several vacant parcels just off U.S. 311/Interstate 74.
The area appears primed for commercial development because of its proximity to the interstate, but the McDonald’s is the first new project to come along in a while at this site.
The area is zoned commercial, but no other projects have been submitted at this point, according to the High Point Planning & Development Department.
