Food service workers join hospital staff
Some food-service workers at High Point Regional Health will soon have a new employer.
The 75 hourly employees who now work at the hospital for outside vendor Aramark Healthcare Support Services, LLC will be employed by the hospital as of Sunday, according to Becky Alley, manager of public relations and marketing for High Point Regional Health System.
The hospital’s contract with Aramark to provide the services is expiring, and the hospital elected not to renew it, Alley said.
Food services at the hospital will be led by UNC Health Care, with which High Point Regional merged last year.
“No layoffs are occurring at High Point Regional,” said Alley. “All hourly employees who were previously employed by Aramark at High Point Regional will be employed by the hospital.”
The employees will be paid the same salaries that they were by Aramark, she added.
“It will be a seamless transition,” Alley said.
Three individuals in food service management positions have chosen to remain employees of Aramark and will be transferred, she said.
All 75 workers were hospital employees before Aramark was brought in as food-service provider, “and when Aramark came in, they transitioned to Aramark employees, so this is really just them transitioning back into our own High Point Regional employees again,” Alley said.
