'Winter Art Exhibit' opens at Theatre Art Galleries
Theatre Art Galleries has new shows, collectively called “Winter Art Exhibit,” opening Tuesday and continuing through Feb. 24.
An opening reception for all the exhibits will be held 5:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 17 at the galleries, 220 E. Commerce Ave.
New exhibit are:
• "Surfacing Connections” in the Main Gallery and Gallery B. Even though the five featured artists work in a variety of media, each aims to convey his or her personal relationship with surroundings and the world we live in. Artists are: Kiki Farish of Raleigh (graphite on board), Sarah West of Raleigh (jewelry and sculpture), Jerry Jackson of Penland (sculpture), Jane Wells Harrison of Lenoir (encaustic collage) and Jill Eberle of New Bern (paintings).
Eberle uses art created by 6-year-olds as her inspiration. She makes her own versions using classical painting techniques and shows both versions in her finished works. Some of Eberle’s works are pictured.
• “Forgotten Faces: Portraits from the High Point Museum” in the Hallway Gallery. The exhibit of approximately a dozen portraits are from the museum’s collection, but they have not been on view for a long time. Most were created in the 1930s and 1940s, and many portray High Point’s founding fathers.
• “TAG’s Annual Middle School Art Exhibit” in Kaleidoscope Youth Gallery. Works are by young artists from Southwest Guilford Middle School, Wesleyan Cjrostoam Academy, High Point Christian Academy, High Point Friends School, Westchester Country Day School, Welborn Middle School and Archdale-Trinity Middle School.
Gallery hours are noon-5 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays and Saturdays by appointment only. More information is online at www.tagart.org; phone is 887-2137.
