Kenneth J. McCauley

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Kenneth Jerome McCauley, 59, died Sunday, May 1, 2011 at his home in North Myrtle Beach, SC.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 9, 2011 at 2:30pm in St. John A. M. E. Zion Church in Thomasville, NC. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 2—2:30 pm and other times at the home of his mother, Cora Ellen McCauley, 200 Church Street, Thomasville.

George “Fuzzy” Taylor

KERNERSVILLE – George “Fuzzy” Taylor, 61, passed away May 5, 2011 as the result of a truck accident in Winston Salem.

Fuzzy was born in Guilford County, September 19, 1949, a son of John and Eunice Taylor.  He was a truck driver for many years and was currently employed by Reliable Tank Line.  Fuzzy was an avid NASCAR fan and he loved the beach.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Snyder Taylor of the home, two daughters, Michelle Goodwin of McLeansville and Morgan Taylor of the home; two sons Todd Taylor of Reidsville and David Taylor of Walkertown; a step-daughter, Marcie Miller and husband Steve of High Point; three grandchildren, Paige, Cheyenne and Kailynne Miller; and a brother, Ronald Taylor and wife Sandra of Greensboro, and his beloved Oreo.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the Davis Funerals and Cremations Chapel by Dr. Jeff Smith.  Burial will follow in Floral Garden Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the funeral Monday from 1 until 3 p.m.  Online condolences may be made at davisfuneralsandcremations.com.

Alberto Viar

THOMASVILLE – Mr. Alberto Viar, loving father, adoring grandfather, and devoted husband is ‘finally home’ having died peacefully at the age of 76, on Wednesday at Pine Ridge Center in Thomasville, N.C.

He was one of six sons born to the late Antonio and Anna Viar, June 27, 1934, in New York City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Antonio Viar Jr., Alfonso Viar, and Alfredo Viar. He is survived by two brothers: Amando and his wife Phyllis and Arnoldo. Al graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School and Voorhees Tech in Manhattan, NY. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War stationed in Anchorage, AK. On December 13, 1958, Al married his beloved wife of 52 years, Aurea in New York, where they lived for 39 years before relocating to Virginia and then retiring to North Carolina in 1997. For most of his career, he worked for Nikon’s microscope division in Garden City, NY followed by work for the city of Lynchburg utilities division in Virginia.

Known as a kind man of good Christian character, Al was an active member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church where he participated in community outreach. A devoted father and grandfather, he loved time spent with his family and enjoyed creating memories that will now be closely cherished.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Aurea; son, William Viar and wife Terri and granddaughters Erica and Monica of Fishers, IN; daughter, Linda Petkof and husband Mike and grandsons Michael, Peter, and Alexander of Thessaloniki, Greece; daughter, Nancy Johnston and husband Chris and grandchildren Gregory, Matthew, and Elizabeth of Thomasville, NC.

A visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 9th at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Thomasville. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 10th at Carolina Memorial Baptist Church, 422 Liberty Drive, Thomasville. Rev. Stuart White and Rev. Tim Landreth will officiate. A military graveside service will follow at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

NORFOLK, Va. – Mrs. Marylene Loftis Hamm, 94, formerly of Tuttle Avenue, died May 6, 2011.

Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Salem Chapel Church Cemetery in Stokes County.

HIGH POINT – Adrian Demetrius Ross, 33, died May 5, 2011, at High Point Regional Hospital.

SEAGROVE – Timothy Alton Garner, 16, died May 5, 2011.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Community Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Shirley Gallimore Hedrick


LEXINGTON – Shirley Gallimore Hedrick, 74, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 4, 2011.

Shirley was born March 7, 1937 in Randolph County, where she lived all her life. She was a loving mother, grandmother and wife of 54 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Vann A. Hedrick; son, Adrian Hedrick and wife Cindy; grandson Lucas Hedrick and wife Emily; daughter, Dianne Cagle and husband Jimmy; granddaughter, Hannah Cagle; 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

The family would like to thank each and everyone who came into the home and at Hinkle Hospice House for taking loving care of Shirley.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 ~ 8:00 pm Sunday, May 8, 2011at Thomasville Funeral Home. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, May 9th at Tabernacle United Methodist Church with the Reverends, Brian Workman and Bill Foust officiating; interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Camilla Rutherford Dickinson

HIGH POINT – Mrs. Camilla Rutherford Dickinson, 92, died May 1, 2011 at Westchester Manor.  A native of Augusta, GA, she was born on October 16, 1918, a daughter to Oliver and Louise Rutherford.  She moved to this area about four years ago from Atlanta, where she had been a resident for 60 years. She was preceded in death by her husband James Edward Dickinson, Jr.

Camilla is survived by two daughters. Dr. Anne Dickinson Alexander of High Point and Camilla Ballard Dickinson and three beloved grandchildren, Julia Ellis, Anthony Augustus and Lydia Anne Alexander.

A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, May 10 at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in High Point.  Condolences may be mailed to 211 St. Andrews Dr., High Point, NC 27265.
