Ray Austin

HIGH POINT — Raymond Foster “Ray” Austin Jr., 65, a resident of High Point, passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013.

He was born May 2, 1945, in Guilford County, NC, to the late Raymond Foster Austin and Virgie Shoemake Austin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam. Raymond was employed with Harris Teeter for 20 years and was of the Baptist faith. Ray enjoyed fishing at the coast, gardening and working at the 311 flea market. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his brother and best friend, Floyd. In addition to his parents, preceding him in death was a sister, Marie Austin Bowden.

Surviving are his wife of 30 years, JoAnn Summey Austin of the home; his daughters, April Renea Austin and Amber Cloaninger of High Point, Priscilla Ann Austin of Thomasville, Troy L. Trotter of Winston-Salem, and Scott G. Trotter of Mt. Holly. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Myrtle Bryson and her husband John “Buddy” of Archdale, Louise Creasman and her husband Rick of Trinity; his brother, Floyd Austin of Archdale; 12 grandchildren; and his adored dog, Giget.

A service to celebrate Ray’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2013, at High Point Freewill Baptist Church on Gains Avenue off Baker Road, with Rev. Pat Ray and Rev. Wayne Tucker officiating. The family will see friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Leroy Brand

HIGH POINT — Mr. Leroy Brand, 75, passed on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Hospice Home at High Point. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time at Phillips Funeral Service, Inc., High Point, NC.


Walter Ransom Crotts

ARCHDALE — Mr. Walter Ransom Crotts, 84, of Archdale, died Thursday, February 21, 2013, at High Point Regional.

Walter was born on May 17, 1928, in Randolph County, a son of the late William Henry Crotts and Ella Myers Crotts. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Henry Crotts, Jr. Walter was a member of Old Union United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran as a mechanic for the aircrafts. On September 15, 1950, he married the love of his life, the former Cherry Bullard. Walter was employed with Carson Incorporated and retired after 40-plus years of service. He enjoyed bowling and golfing.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cherry B. Crotts of the home; four sons, Jeff Crotts of Sophia, Gregory Crotts and wife  Annette of Asheboro, Christopher Crotts and wife Jane of Sophia and Dale Crotts and wife Becky of Sophia; and  two grandsons, Ben and Andrew Crotts.

A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 23, at Old Union United Methodist Church, 5077 Walker Mill Road, Sophia, NC 27350, with Pastor Nancy Krill officiating. Burial will follow at Old Union Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Sue Everhart

THOMASVILLE — Minnie Sue Huffman Everhart, 84, left peacefully from this earth on February 21, 2013.

She was born on May 9, 1928, in Catawba County to Edgar Oscar Huffman and Ola Gantt Huffman. She graduated from Thomasville High School in 1945. Her last place of employment was Carolina Seating in Thomasville.

Surviving is husband of 65 years, James “Bill” Howard Everhart of the home. She is also survived by her two daughters, Carlisa Bryant and husband Ed of Davidson, NC, and Nancy Elberson and husband Steve of Beaufort, NC. Minnie Sue was also the proud grandmother of four grandchildren, Nathan Bryant with wife Emily of Asheville, NC, Matthew Elberson with wife Melissa of Mount Pleasant, NC, Jonathan Bryant with wife Morgan of Mooresville, NC , and Cole Elberson with wife Gina of Newport, NC. She also was blessed with three great-granddaughters Hanna Elberson, Caroline Bryant and Leah Elberson; and one great-grandson, Bentley Bryant. She also welcomed into her family two step-great grandsons, Christopher and Timothy Cagle. Surviving siblings include a brother Edward Huffman and wife Deloris of Thomasville; sister Dorothy Warfford of Thomasville, and sister-in-law Peggy Huffman of Memphis, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by sister Lucille Grayson and brother Charles Huffman. Also remaining are many loving nieces and nephews.

Minnie Sue was a longtime member of Richfork Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School class.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Michael Bowers and Rev. Bob James officiating. Mrs. Everhart will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the hour of the graveside service. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. at the worship center at Rich Fork Baptist Church and at other times at the home. GREENSBORO — Mrs. Hilda Penn Hines, 97, of Greensboro, died Thursday, February 21, 2013, at Friends Homes West. Arrangements are incomplete with Forbis and Dick Guilford Chapel.


Nickey Len Jacobs

TRINITY – Mr. Nickey Len Jacobs, 37, of Trinity, died Wednesday as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral plans are pending; however, the family will receive friends from 6: 00 until 8: 00 pm Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

RAMSEUR — Ms. Esther Louise Jernigan, 86, of Ramseur, NC, died Thursday, February 21, 2013. A funeral service is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 24, 2013, at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Robert Welton Sinodis

FAYETTEVILLE — Robert Welton Sinodis, 84, of Fayetteville, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, at Cape Fear Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Village Presbyterian Church with Rev. Archie Barringer officiating. Burial will follow at Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville. The family will receive friends at the church from 12 to 1 p.m. Saturday prior to the service.

Mr. Sinodis leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Jane Sinodis; son, Leonard Sinodis; daughter Rebecca Sinodis Puczylowski and her husband Johnny; two grandsons, John L. Puczylowski and Daniel Puczylowski; and a great-grandson, Julian Puczylowski.
