In 2006, I came out as a lesbian. I was 21 years old, had a place to myself, a car, a job, basically everything a young girl trying to make it in the real world could need. When I came out, it shocked a good portion of my family. That first year after I came out, my roads were a little rocky as people I loved and cared about got used to the idea of me being a lesbian. I'm not saying it was hard road to travel, but I'm also not saying it was easy either.
